Johan Plomp studied double bass and composition / arranging at the Conservatory in Hilversum (the Netherlands). With Miguel Martinez, he is the founder of ‘What’s The Tonic – the Quartet’. As a bass player and composer, his name is on many CDs, with artists like Wim Overgaauw, Buddies In Soul (Cees Slinger), Loet van der Lee and Fleurine.Johan is the conductor of the Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra, and the Johan Plomp Small Big Band. He conducted and arranged for ensembles the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, the Amsterdam Saxophone Quartet, Tineke Postma and Amsterdam Sinfonietta and the Metropole Orchestra. Plomp is now teaching at the ‘Conservatorium van Amsterdam
